How To Choose The Perfect Pet Name

Naming your new friend can be tricky... Unless you use these helpfull tips!

Tip Number One

1. It is a good idea to choose a short name that is just one or two syllables long. Most pets (particularly dogs) will be better able to recognize (and respond) to shorter names more easily than long names. In other words ubersupperflymcscruffles might not be the best name to go with... Unless maybe you also choose to use a nick-name. Can Ubersupperflymcscruffles go by the name scruffle?

2. You want to pick a name that can grow with your pet. For example zippy might work for your new puppy, but do you want your lazy old dog to be named Zippy? Maybe you do! But something to think about. The name "Kitten" might become less appropriate as your cat grows older.

3. When you name your new friend (especially dog), it's good to avoid names that sound a lot like common commands (Stay, No, Sit, Down etc.). Joe for example sounds a lot like "No".

4. Be patient and find a name that matches your pet. Some times its a good idea to wait a few days or even a few weeks before settling on your pets new name. This gives you a chance to find out "who" your new pet is. The more time you have to learn about your new friend the more easy it will be to find a fitting name. You might even be surprised when something unexpected just "sticks"

4. Be unique!
